Meet the Artist

What is a Devatar?

The Devatars Ganesha, Lakshmi, Shiva, Kali, and Hanuman have arrived in digital form to protect and guide the yogis into the future of art, technology, and community.

Observing the natural order shifting, these benevolent guardians call upon you to bring your spiritual wisdom to web3 and share it with our growing global sangha.

The word “Devatar” fuses the concepts of “deva,” divine protectors of cosmic order, and “avatar,” a digital embodiment, together symbolizing their sacred presence in this modern age.

They are intended to bring you protection, guidance, and connection as you walk the path of yoga in a modern world, and remind us to stay centred, with one foot rooted in the foundations of the tradition and the other participating in the co-creation of a digital future that works for us all.

The Devatars are a a limited collection of 5400 NFTs created by visionary artist Alexa May by combining over 1,000 hand-illustrated attributes inspired by Hindu mythology to form one of five powerful Hindu deities: Shiva, Kali, Ganesha, Hanuman, or Lakshmi, in Alexa's signature artistic style.

Each Devatar carries the wisdom and blessings of its deity, offering protection, guidance, and inspiration whenever you are online.

As part of the World of Yoga sangha your Devatar also serves as a key, opening the door to a vibrant community of like-minded collectors who share a passion for spirituality and innovation. Simply put, they are a lifetime membership that can be used to access World of Yoga and were created to connect and bring energy to the global yoga community.

Owning a Devatar means you’re not just collecting art — you are part of the tradition of yoga and you are part of its evolution.

In Hinduism, Devas/Devis are powerful and benevolent beings responsible for maintaining the natural order of the universe and protecting the earth from chaos and destruction. They are often worshipped and invoked for blessings, guidance, and protection.

The term "avatar" has evolved to refer to a digital representation of oneself in the digital age.

Meanwhile, a Devatar serves as a unique concept that combines traditional Hindu beliefs with digital art and modern technology. Unlike the profile picture avatars often used today as digital representations of oneself, the Devatars serve as guardians of our digital spaces.

How you use the image of your Devatar online is up to you, but we encourage you to learn about it and treat it with reverence and respect. It is not intended as a representation of yourself.

Benefits of Devatar ownership

<aside> 📿 Spiritual Energy

The Devatars were designed as murtis for the modern person practicing yoga and living in a digital age. In a very real way they can bring power, protection, beauty, and wisdom into our lives IRL and online.

Each piece of digital art in the collection will only officially become a “murti” once they are spiritually consecrated in a meaningful way. If you’d like to help us with this, please reach out to us at [email protected]

Until then, out of respect for tradition. Devatars are simply the images attached to a cryptographic credential that grants access to all the things we will do together.

The Devatars art and metadata is attached to an NFT smart-contract on the Ethereum blockchain.

Purchasing a Devatar NFT represents your financial contribution to our community as well as the pass to access and contribute to the community.

You may choose to sell your NFT on the secondary market if you no longer wish to access its benefits. In doing so, a percentage royalty from that sale will be returned to World of Yoga to keep things flowing.

If you think the monetary value from selling your NFT is worth more to you than the benefits you receive from keeping it and being a part of our community then sell it.

If you think being part of our community and contributing to its success is worth more to you than the monetary value you could receive from selling it, then keep it and we are happy to have you!

Our mission is to empower yogis around the world with a new way to connect - and then see what happens next!

We hope the next thing that happens is that we start to build trusting relationships, share ideas, collaborate, and build amazing things that contribute to the evolution of how we share yoga with the world.

It starts with minting a Devatar NFT and enjoying a few online experiences together. If things go well of course
. it could also mean we start curating events worthy of Lakshmi herself.
